Mission

Members of the Student Learning Assessment Committee serve as champions of outcomes-based student learning assessment, promoting its importance to the college mission and supporting ongoing and effective assessment practices by educating and mentoring faculty.

Charge

In collaboration with the director of teaching and learning innovation, assist faculty in making improvements to classroom or programmatic assessment practices. Review annual program assessment documents, make recommendations, and offer feedback, resulting in meaningful assessment and programmatic improvements. Facilitate institutional use of student learning assessment data, including making recommendations for resource allocation. 

Areas of Responsibility

The Student Learning Assessment Committee is responsible for:

  • Mentoring faculty colleagues in applying effective outcomes-based assessment practices.
  • Providing feedback to the director of teaching and learning innovation about the design of assessment documents, including evaluation rubrics.
  • Reviewing annual program assessment documents in collaboration with the director of teaching and learning innovation.
  • Providing peer feedback on program assessment data with an emphasis on collaboration between colleagues.
  • In collaboration with the director of teaching and learning innovation, analyzing programmatic and college learning outcomes data to discover trends and make recommendations to the campus.
  • Guiding the development and revision of student learning assessment policy and procedure.

Meetings

The cycle varies according to workload. Program assessment reports are due annually by September 15th.

Proposed: Committee will meet every other week during the fall semester to complete assessment report reviews prior to the end of the fall semester. Committee feedback on assessment reports will be due at the end of the fall semester. Spring semester (January-May), meetings are monthly as needed.
