Why are private donations needed at Great Falls College MSU?

Donations are needed to support our number one giving priority: Student Scholarships.  Students at GFCMSU tend to be older than the traditional college age.  They often have children, lower income levels, mortgages, and many other responsibilities not experienced by a student at a university.  Consequently, without financial support, higher education is not always a reality.  Scholarships help ensure many of these students have access to higher education in Great Falls.

Additionally, private contributions are necessary for the development and advancement of many academic programs and projects on campus.  Great Falls College MSU is supported by the Montana University System.  However, the MUS funds only go so far.  To enhance and expand learning opportunities in Great Falls, the college continually searches for private support that will ensure this college remains a premier two-year institution of higher learning in North Central Montana.

How does private giving impact students?

Through Federal Financial Aid, loans and grants are available, but these are not always options for many students we serve.  Due to tight finances, family expenses, or other obligations, many situations don’t allow students to take on additional debt in the form of student loans.  That is why scholarships are so important to deserving and needy students.  It provides them the financial opportunity to enhance their lives by exploring higher education here at home – eliminating the financial barriers that may prevent someone from pursuing or achieving their educational dreams.  However, not all scholarships are need based.  North Central Montana has some amazingly gifted students and merit based scholarships allow these students to consider Great Falls College MSU as a place to start their educational journey.  Not only do these awards benefit these local scholars, but it benefits our community at large as we retain some of our best and brightest minds.

How does private funding to Great Falls College MSU impact the community?

As a community college, our mission is to foster the success of both individual learners and the public at large.  Academic programs at the college focus on benefitting the economic vitality of many area industries through workforce development.  From carpentry to healthcare, our region’s businesses are greatly impacted by diverse academic programs at Great Falls College MSU.  Private donations advance learning opportunities in these programs, and enhance the capacity of the college to best serve the equally diverse needs of the North Central Montana Community.

However you choose to support Great Falls College MSU, your generous gift is changing lives in our community one student at a time.  All donations further our efforts to provide the best education and learning environments possible for our students.
