GREAT FALLS – 15 Great Falls College MSU students were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society induction ceremony on Thursday, April 18. Phi Theta Kappa was formed in 1910 and is the official honor society for two-year colleges
“Phi Theta Kappa provides recognition for academic and service learning achievements while in college,” said Joshua Archey, Student Activities and Prevention Education Coordinator. “By being a member, students have many opportunities for scholarships both locally and nationally, as well as access to resources to grow their leadership skills.”
According to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the average member receives $2,500 in transfer scholarships for two-year students to assist with degree completion.
Over the last year, GFC MSU has inducted over 40 students into Phi Theta Kappa with the most recent students being: Shawn Arbuckle, Bailey Brumley, Savannah Day Chief, Carl Clary, Christopher Disalvatore, Charmaine Engum, Roger Ereaux, Mechele Fonck, Theresa Ground, Chase Hooper, Alyssa Beth Luna, Candace Marquette, Michele Uhrich and Brianna White.
“When I was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, I was very proud,” said Michele Uhrich, Phi Theta Kappa inductee and student at GFC MSU. “I was proud of myself, but more importantly, I was proud to be part of an organization that is dedicated to helping two-year college students succeed and thrive after college.”
In addition to scholarships, members have the opportunity to attend regional and national conferences, apply for the PTK Honors Institute with a focus in leadership development and enroll in free online professional development courses to enhance soft skillsets giving them a competitive edge when seeking employment.
Each candidate for membership must have completed twelve (12) semester hours of associate degree course work, must be enrolled as a student with a grade point average of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale, adhere to the school conduct code and possess recognized qualities of citizenship. A cumulative grade point average of 3.25 must be maintained to remain in good standing.
