Dr. Wolff calls for unity amid strife

Dear Great Falls College family,

More than 50 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote the immortal words: "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."

His vision of opportunity and safety for all was founded on peaceful work and thoughtful conversation.

Sadly, America is still torn apart by racial strife and brutality as evidenced by the heinous killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

We are fortunate to live in a county and community where our sheriff stands with those protesting Floyd's senseless death and our police chief fully supported the efforts of those who led a rally despite his officers receiving some "nasty notes," according to city Manager Greg Doyon. That is not welcome here.

Great Falls College MSU is a place where every person of every background has the same chance to better themselves when they enter our doors.

We are proud of the work of our Native American Enrichment Center. We are proud of our Student Engagement Center and its events that honor and promote equity and inclusion. We are proud of the achievements of all of our students, faculty and staff.

We also know some of you are scared. Some of you are hurting. We see you.

We also know we can do better. We can do more. Let's start a conversation.

Reach out with ideas on how Great Falls College can help bend that arc toward justice, and, in the coming weeks, we can deliver on our promise as an educational institution to make our society better for everyone.

While in the near term we cannot come together physically in the same ways as we have in the past, we will stay united in spirit and move forward in conversation and action.

Sincerely,

Dr. Susan J. Wolff, CEO/Dean
