Dental hygiene student Hannah Johnson has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Montana Student Volunteer Award for Great Falls College MSU.

Johnson, who is in her second year of the dental hygiene program, is an active member of the Great Falls College Healthy Colleges Montana student group. She has focused on chronic disease prevention, serving as a peer educator to fellow college students on oral health implications and mental health benefits through an Instagram photo campaign.

“Hannah is an amazing example of someone who excels in an extremely rigorous academic program and still manages to find ways to give back to the community,” said Joshua Archey, student engagement coordinator at Great Falls College. “In addition to all of her many accomplishments, Hannah is a constant ray of light who makes our community stronger and better with just her positivity.”

She also is an honor student in Phi Theta Kappa who finds time to deliver meals on wheels with her classmates, builds lunch packs with the Great Falls Community Food Bank and helps to plan programming around Martin Luther King Day, Global Youth Day of Service and Great Falls College Service Saturdays Program through campus cleanups and other planned service projects.

“Whenever asked, Hannah is there for us,” said Dr. Stephanie Erdmann, CEO/dean of Great Falls College. “She gives the best tours of our newly expanded dental clinic, and she seeks ways to make the Great Falls College community stronger and more tightly knit.”

The Montana Student Volunteer Award was created to honor Montana’s civically engaged college students. Montana Campus Compact affiliate campuses, in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Community Service, give this award to college students across the state who have demonstrated service to their communities while pursuing a college degree or certificate.

“Montana students who serve our communities enrich their education and make meaningful impacts across our great state,” said Sarah Sadowski, director of the Governor’s Office of Community Service. It is an honor to recognize these amazing individuals for their service in partnership with Montana Campus Compact.”
